Frequently Asked Questions — Harrisburg, PA

Common questions about pest control, lawn care, plant health care, mosquito and tick treatments, nuisance wildlife removal, and our other services in Harrisburg and Central Pennsylvania.

About Lawns Plants & Pests LLC

Are you locally owned?
Yes. Locally owned and owner-operated, based in Central Pennsylvania. The same person who answers the phone walks your property and applies the treatment. No corporate dispatcher, no scripted call center, no out-of-state ownership.
How long have you been in business?
Lawns Plants & Pests LLC was founded in 2022. The owner, Devon Alleman, has been a Pennsylvania-licensed pesticide applicator continuously since 2005 — over 20 years of licensing across different roles before launching LPP. He is also a Pennsylvania-certified Nuisance Wildlife Control Operator and has 10+ years of active beekeeping experience through The Alleman Apiary.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. We're a licensed Pennsylvania pesticide applicator (8 categories including general, agricultural, and aquatic) and a Pennsylvania-certified NWCO. We carry full liability insurance for residential, commercial, and agricultural work.
How is your service different from the national chains?
National chains run on volume — scripted programs, technicians on tight time-per-stop schedules, and call-center sales. We slow down. The same person walks your property, identifies what's going on, and treats accordingly. We also offer real organic and pollinator-friendly options that most chains don't.

Pricing & Contracts

Do I need a contract to get an estimate?
No. Every estimate is free with no obligation. Most services are billed per visit — cancel or skip any time.
How much do your services cost?
Pricing varies by service, property size, and what specifically needs to be done. We give free estimates over the phone or on-site. Call or text 717-379-3248 with what you're dealing with.
Do you require pre-payment?
No. We bill after services are completed. We accept cash, check, and Venmo.

Treatments & Safety

Are your treatments safe for kids and pets?
Yes, when applied correctly. Our pest control is perimeter-only — we don't spray inside your home, which already removes the biggest indoor-exposure concern. Outdoor applications use EPA-registered products applied by a Pennsylvania-licensed applicator, and we'll always tell you the re-entry interval. For sensitive situations we offer reduced-risk and organic-compatible product options.
Do you spray inside the home?
No. Our pest control is perimeter-only — we treat the exterior of your home (foundation, eaves, soffits, garage doors, entry points) to keep pests from getting in. No interior spraying, no kitchen treatments, no fumes in your living space. Better for kids, pets, pollinators, and air quality. One exception: if a yellow jacket colony chews through drywall into a living space, we do work inside — the wasps get vacuumed out first, then the area is treated. That's an emergency call, not routine interior service, and it runs $375–$500.
Do you offer organic options?
Yes. Our fully organic lawn care program is one of the only real organic-only lawn programs available in Central PA. We also offer reduced-risk and organic-compatible options across plant health care, mosquito and tick control, and agricultural work.
Will your treatments harm bees and pollinators?
We work hard to make sure they don't. We're a working beekeeper through our sister business The Alleman Apiary. We use soil drenches instead of foliar sprays where possible, time applications before or after bloom, and choose products that target the specific pest rather than broad-spectrum products.

Specific Services

Do you handle honey bees?
Yes — and the goal is always to get them out alive. We coordinate with our partner apiary, The Alleman Apiary, to remove and relocate colonies. Live removal depends on the colony being reachable safely and the removal being cost-effective for you; where it isn't, we say so up front and talk through the options. See our Honey Bee Removal page.
Do you handle mice, rats, or roaches?
No. Rodent control (mice and rats) and cockroach extermination aren't part of our service mix. For either, reach out to a specialist focused on those pests. Squirrels, raccoons, groundhogs, and other nuisance wildlife we do handle as a separate service — see nuisance wildlife.
Do you do tree removal or pruning?
No. We focus on plant health care treatments — insect control, disease management, fertilization, soil work, and spotted lanternfly. For pruning or tree removal you'll need a certified arborist.
Do you service farms and rural properties?
Yes. We provide Agricultural Pest Service including fly control for cattle, poultry mite and louse treatments, sheep and goat parasite control, and varroa mite management for honey bees.
Do you do wildlife removal?
Yes. We're a Pennsylvania-licensed NWCO and handle raccoons, groundhogs, squirrels, skunks, opossums, bats, and snakes.
How quickly can you respond?
Routine work books a few days to a week out. For emergencies — active stinging insect nests, wildlife in living spaces, swarms during bee season — we prioritize same-day or next-day response when at all possible.
